Boxy for "Inbox by Gmail" App Reviews

Can’t access my mail anymore

Given the nature the app was constructed, it seems they are simulating a web browser in the app. Google must have updated something and that broke the app. Now I can’t access my email until Boxy updates the app. Unfortunately, given the nature of how the App Store works who knows when this will happen. If they released the app on their website then this issue would be less impactful as they could instantly update the app and avoid the App Store. 1 star since I paid for something I can’t even use.

Good at first

This app was working really well at first. After about a day or so I noticed things become really choppy. The animations are starting to lag and the interface is not working properly. Would love to see this resolved.

Not working well for me

My coworker bought this before I did and showed me how it worked so I know that these features aren’t broken across the board, but for me, there are no notifications at all, the dark theme does not work (only the font color changes), and every action I take results in very janky page rendering. Its painful to mark emails as done or open emails becuase the rendering is so slow and janky. Still giving 3 stars becasue I’ve seen it working and know it can be great.

Good, but minor annoyances remain

This app is a great start, and for the most part it’s a welcome addition on any Inbox user’s dock. There are some little issues that still need to be worked out, though, including: * It always launches in the center of the screen * It doesn’t support fullscreen mode * It doesn’t automatically detect whether it should be in dark mode (based on the menu bar color) Overall, it’s still a little too obvious that this is a fancy web view inside a wrapper application. I hope it’ll get better, as they’ve done a great job with the initial release.

A small step up from fluid

For a long time I have created my own “apps” using Fluidapp which basically turns a webapp into a mac app. This app seems to be exactly that, with a few customizations to make it more specific to Inbox. I found it to be ok, but have switched back to airmail which is a fully fledged app, rather than a wrapper around with website. I found boxy to buggy at the mercy of frequent changes made by Inbox. Every time the site changed, it would cause different problems to spring up in Boxy which exposes the flawed design of this app. There’s no way Boxy could ever keep up with the changes in Inbox.

Boxy is the email app for Google Inbox on the Mac

Email is a huge problem. Luckily with the help of Boxy and Google Inbox, these two companies are alleviating the problem. If you don’t know the huge pluses to using Google Inbox, do yourself a favor and start using it on the iPhone. Then, when you’re sick of using the Mail app on the Mac because it doesn’t offer snoozing, buy Boxy and get going. It solves all the problems that Mailbox left me with when it abandoned me and all the issues of a “non-modern” email experience. At this point, snoozing and bundling are features I expect out of every email program. If they don’t offer these two features, there’s no reason to use their apps.

Amazing app

This app delivers exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a native client that let me use inbox, including desktop notifications and fullscreen support. This app definitely delivers on that. Totally worth the $3 to not have to keep inbox as a tab in my browser and get actual notifications when I get an email.

Lot’s of potential, but lacking one important feature

I seriously like this app, but it has to gain an important feature available in the browser version of Inbox by Gmail, being the capability to "Increase/Decrease” font size. For users with vision issues or simply with farsightedness, the font size is WAY too small. I really hope this is fixed soon as it’s very easy to do since the app is nothing more than a browser version of Inbox by Gmail wrapped with some nice additional features (and I’m sure more to come). The app has become non-responsive a couple of times, but I’m not too concerned anout that…it will get better. If a version comes out that lets me increase the font size, I’ll be back to change my review to 5 stars.

Attachments?

Great app but can’t open any attachment. And the app freezes on clicking them. Waiting for a solution asap.

Awesome Mail App

Awesome mail app with a nice user interface. Thank you for developing a great app. : )

If you’re looking for a desktop version of Google Inbox...

…This is it. If you’re looking for consistency, look somwhere else. It’s good, when it works. Over the last month or so, it has been an on again off again struggle.

Barely even a beta version

This is in no way ready for prime time. Can’t print. Mail links don’t work. And my favorite….you can’t even scroll through lists or emails. It was cheap, but I still can’t believe I paid for this.

Good but missing something important.

I thought the app would have a setting, so that badge count and notifications could be Inbox only. I don’t want to get notifications for all my bundled emails. I hope that is next.

Not Ready for the Big Time

No additional features that I’d like (such as adding a “trash can” to delete certain messages next to the “done” checkmark). Also, I use multiple gmail addresses and I can’t figure out how to change which is my default account. Dark Theme doesn’t work for me. I accidentally got out of Inbox to G+ and the only way to get back to my gmail was to quit Boxy and reopen it. Lots of bugs, not a lot of features. Feels like they took inbox and reframed it into a Mac app then charged $5 for it. Kind of a rip off.

It’s Just Okay

I feel like this app is lacking. It’s minimalistic to the point of being too simple and doesn’t have some of the features that other email clients like Airmail and Thunderbird have. Similarly to Gmail, it has the ridiculous inability to pop-up a seperate window when writing replies to long emails that require constant references to that email. I also cannot log into more than one email account, which is annoying. Especially when you regularly switch between two accounts. Still, it’s minmalistic design is visually attractive, and it does do the job. In any case, I wish there had been a “lite” version to try first, because I wouldn’t have gotten the app otherwise!

A native app that clones the Inbox web expereince

I love Inbox, but I really wanted a native app. This fits the bill. However, the inability to open (or even download) attachments is inexcusable. Whenever I receive a file I am forced to open a browser and navigate to the Inbox web page to get at it, which sort of defeats the purpose of having a standalone app. Once this is fixed I will be back to upgrade the rating to 5/5.

First App Review ever!

Hey guys, thanks for this great app! Two bugs report: 1) attachements are not uploadable to the client. 2) the reply/compose email’s window pops-up in a wierd position, and need to be changed. Suggestions: 1) drop-down list from the upper bar for quick actions menu. 2)add your application Right-click share options. Although, the website is more than enough for a normal inbox user, I felt this app is useful and easier to use. Honestly, I can’t use it with the current state, so I’m refunding what I paid until you make above corrections. Thanks.

Buggy notifications

Read detection is kind of broken, so you’ll see repeated notifications for an email you clearly are reading. This also means your badge icon keeps showing new emails despite the fact you read or even replied to them all.

Perfect app for use with Inbox

I have been using this for a couple of months now and I have to say it’s the best solution out there if you want a native app for using Inbox. I look forward to seeing what new features come in future versions. On a separate note, any chance of building something similar for Hangouts?

Good concepts, lacks some execution

This app has several annoying features which keep if from remaining on my MacBook: first, the app restores itself to the screen when I close or minimize other apps. Second, Command+C does not work in the app, requiring me to utilize the right-click menu option (which I invariably forget the first attempt to copy text).
