Boxy for "Inbox by Gmail" App Reviews

Precisely as Advertised

OS X’s default email client is buggy and bland. Use that always open browser tab for something else and get Boxy. It’s Inbox for your desktop. Fast, simple, accessible… Light blue. It just works ^_^

All the greatness of Inbox, in a desktop app

Inbox has change my relationship to email, and Boxy has brought forward the key missing feature for me. An uncomplicated desktop app. It does exactly what it needs to do and preserves the great Inbox experience.

Dropped Support for Yosemite! Are you @#*! kidding me?

They dropped support for Yosemite weeks after I paid their rediculous price tag for a webview. And now I have a useless app sitting in my Dock. I demand a refund of the full amount paid, immediately. I’m reporting this to Apple. [Edit: I just reported this app to Apple] Do not spend you money on this, the developers are clearly unreliable.

It looks good, but needs a lot of work

So first thing first… I’ve been using this app for the last 6 months and will be looking elsewhere now. I would also recommend to look elsewhere. It looks great, but I have the feeling this is basically a very nice CSS to gmail that actually cuts functionality from the original gmail interface… but I could be wrong... What doesn’t work for me: 1) Notifications are sometimes stuck in time… everytime, I get a notification from an email back in March… There is nothing new there but it keeps coming up as new one… 2) Crashes often unfortunately 3) Updates are very VERY far apart 4) Constantly having to re-login in Gmail, which is a pain 5) Search is literal… won’t find plurals if you write in the singular… ie type donut and it won’t find the email with donuts

A better Google Inbox

This app fills some annoying gaps in Google Inbox. It provides a greatly improved interface for composing and replying to messages. It also looks better. It can be slow and resource hungry at times, however, this is due to performance issues with the underlying Google Inbox web app. Overall, it is smoother and looks better than Google Inbox in the browser.

Slow, poorly layout and full of bugs

I have yet to get through a day where this app hasn’t crashed, froze up, or stalled. It lags between loading different emails and isn’t better then MAIL, the base Apple mail client. I won’t buy it. Update: Now the app is crashing and not allowing me to switch mail boxes. I am uninstalling this app

Would be great, but too many bugs

I wish they would create a public bug tracker for everything that is wrong with this application. It would be so useful if it wasn’t completely plagued by bugs: My latest issue: Using “Paste and match style” does nothing, so you are forced to paste rich text into email messages sent via Boxy. There are plenty of other bugs but I stopped using Boxy so I can’t remember them all. Looking forward to trying version 2 when it comes out.

Love Boxy, anxiously awaiting Boxy 2

Others have reported bugs with boxy, but I think it works relatively well. I occasionally see the odd anomoly, but for the most part it does the job well.

Best GMail Interface EVER!

I’m an IT guy, just retired, from a huge organization with 24,000 employees. Email was always at the heart of everything we did, from design and collaboration to Rapid Application Deployment. I relied on my email more than any other technology aspect of my job. When I first became aware of “Boxy”, I got the trial immediately. I could tell right off the hop that this app was a winner. Before the end of the day, I bought the full program. Because I understand software design, I understand this application. It made my job so much easier! And I just love the nice and clean interface. I love the ability to “snooze” the email. I had tried that feature on another email app, but that app was no where near as attractive as Boxy. Of course it won’t do everything that Outlook does, but Outlook is a dinosaur with a million bugs. Boxy does what I want it to do, and it does it very well - while looking good at the same time! In my retirement, I run several ecommerce businesses. I recommend products and apps to clients who are looking to build their own ecommerce businesses. Right at the top of the list is Boxy. I have no connection to this company, and I don’t make a penny for saying what I said. I just feel that this company is on the right track, and is one of very few that really understands email handling. I expect there to be a bug or two (though I haven’t found any yet), but I want this company to keep developing. I see big things here.

Switching accounts and notifications

switching accounts too slow. Almost no useful. No notifications for background accounts.

Good, but slow to change accounts

Good UI, but changing accounts is very slow in my environment.

Broken.

As of this moment, Only thing I can see when I open the app is a message saying "Its been a while since your browser was last updated. Please upgrade to the latest version to continue using Inbox.”. I just downloaded the app and I am waiting for an update to fix this issue.

Great app

If youre looking for Gmail / Inbox desktop app, dont think twice, this is an absolutely amazing client

Signature doesn’t work :(

Signature is not added to e-mails when using multiple accounts.

Good client, but...

I’ve been using Boxy for about 4 months now. It’s good email client, but it lacks some important features like uploading a file from your PC… In current version I have to drag & drop a file in a email which is ULTRA annoying!

Good

Good way to differ work and home mail. There is some ways to improve: 1) add some options for menu icon 2) button to enter/escape reader mode on main window panel 3) options to disable unread counter Thanks!

Should be improved

Nice app but with little shortcommings. The main dissapointment are fonts that are looking worse then in browser version. Left panel is not resizable which is not convenient for big screens.

Ottimo, ma...

comodissimo! il massimo sarebbe avere il client hangouts integrato, come per la versione web...

Must have El Capitan to work!

I loved this until my “trial” ended. I purchased in the app store and now the application stopped working. All I see is empty folders for every label.

Broken

It’s currently broken, and does not work. It was fine, but now with 1.1.1 it will show every box as empty. They should take it off the store. I never tried a ‘Trial Version’, I simply bought it off the App Store. So *do* listen to me. It does not work on multiple machines on Yosemite. I cannot update to El Cap for a variety of reasons and software.
